THERMOGRAPHY
Is a detection procedure that converts invisible heat energy into a visible picture. It reveals defects or problems in electrical systems, mechanical equipment, insulations or in any process that uses or produces energy.
Considering the high cost of electrical and mechanical failures as well as of energy losses, thermography can mean substantial savings. And because thermographic scans are performed while your equipment is in operation, there is no lost production or machine downtime.
Thermography helps identify the following problems:
- Energy problems, unbalanced or overloaded circuits
- Improper grounding
- Bearing and coupling wear
- Faulty electrical contacts or connections
- Energy loss
- Refractory deterioration
- Building insulation and roof membrane leaks
- Warm air penetration
- Mechanical components failure
Predictive Engineering Inc. during an inspection can detect abnormal heating caused by poor connections, short circuits, overloads, load imbalances and faulty, mismatched or improperly installed components in your electrical system. We use infrared cameras and other technologies to inspect all or part of the entire electrical system, mechanical systems, refractory or insulations, and others including transformers, switchgear, distribution centers, sub-feed panels, distribution panels, bus ducts, motor control centers, connectors, back-up batteries mechanical equipments, roof insulations, etc. Upon completion of the inspection we prepare a comprehensive report with infrared images and digital photographs of the equipment surveyed together with all the measures taken, and a recommended action plan that can be kept from year to year to compare the results.
There are many benefits to having an infrared inspection including:
- locates problems without interrupting services or production.
- reduces costly, unscheduled interruptions due to power outages.
- allows proactive maintenance of electrical equipment.
- necessary replacement parts can be ordered ahead of time minimizing outages and production interruptions.
- extends the life of electrical equipment by detecting and repairing problems that would eventually lead to catastrophic failure.
- may reduce your insurance costs (check with your insurance company).
